Russian Deputy FM says “maximum efforts" is made to resolve war
Ryabkov noted that discussions have been taking place “almost without interruption” in recent days. “We are making maximum efforts so that during the contacts, which in recent days have been proceeding almost uninterruptedly in various formats, a settlement scheme is developed that fully corresponds to the basic understandings of the presidents of Russia and the US reached during their meeting in Anchorage,” he said.
The Anchorage meeting between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump occurred on August 15, 2025, focusing on a potential Ukrainian settlement.
Regarding the broader state of Russia-U.S. relations, Ryabkov described it as “stagnation,” explaining that while the level of engagement has become routine, discussions continue. He highlighted that the previous round of talks took place in Washington and that working-level exchanges are now being resumed in capitals, calling this a “positive development.”
On the issue of the U.S. diplomatic mission in Russia, Ryabkov said Moscow has no indication of when Washington will request agreement for a new ambassador. “Not even exploratory contacts on this matter have taken place. The diplomatic mission in Moscow is headed by a charge d'affaires, with whom we have a working and constantly functioning contact,” he explained.
